Kristen Shaw grew up in North Carolina, and after graduating from Wake Forest University, headed to Los Angeles for the next 15 years. During that time she appeared in over 2 dozen Film and Television projects, including 2 Series Regular roles, multiple pilots, as well as over 25 National Commercials.
In Los Angeles, Kristen studied with Patrick Strong for thirteen years, in his Strasberg Method weekly class. Patrick had been Lee Strasberg’s Teaching Assistant for many years, during the time Lee taught at The Actor’s Studio West. They utilized Strasberg’s format of Sensory, Relaxation and Scene work, and Kristen credits Strasberg Method as being her core Acting foundation, and what all her work was based upon.
Kristen Shaw was Series Regular “Nora”, the First Gentleman’s Chief-of-Staff, in ABC’s hit Commander-in-Chief, with Geena Davis and Donald Sutherland. She was called a “modern day Lady MacBeth” by the New York Times, for her portrayal of “Fiona”, William Petersen’s tough-talking wife in the Oscar nominated film, The Contender. She received an Emmy campaign by the producers of the critically-acclaimed ABC series, Line of Fire, for her Series Regular role as “Janet Malloy”, wife to the mob boss, played by David Paymer.
Multiple film credits include Resurrecting the Champ with Samuel L. Jackson, The Last Castle, with Robert Redford, Nothing But the Truth, with Kate Beckinsale, and many others.
Since arriving in Atlanta in April of 2009, Kristen has appeared in the Kevin Spacey film Father of Invention, BET’s pilot episode of hit show Being Mary Jane, as well as a strong supporting role in the Sony picture Straw Dogs, with Kate Boswoth and James Marsden, and SAG short films The Closet and Jeremy O’Keefe’s Finale. She can also be seen as Series Regular “Anna” in the award winning web series Then We Got Help!
The Kristen Shaw Acting Studio was started in 2011, to provide Atlanta Actors the same caliber of intensive and on going training that is found in NY and Los Angeles. KSAS is designed to be a Home for Working Actors, and a safe place for them to continually stretch and grow. Mastering your craft is a lifelong process for the Actor, and one that we believe needs to be supported and encouraged every step of the way.
Kristen has been teaching classes and providing personal coaching, career strategy and audition technique for over 10 years. She has helped many actors go on to Film, Television and Starring Roles on Broadway. Her on-going classes in On Camera Audition Technique, Strasberg Method Film Acting, and Living the Actor’s Life, have helped many actors achieve their goals, at many levels.
She is represented by People Store.
